Barrington native’s ‘Lemonade Mouth’ is a story of empowerment

Themes of believing in yourself and following your dreams are explored in the music-driven “Lemonade Mouth,” a Disney Channel original movie based on the book of the same name by Barrington native Mark Peter Hughes. It’s set to premiere Friday night, April 15.

Mark Peter Hughes, a Barrington native who lives in Wayland, Mass., has been writing books for young adults since 2005, and he doesn’t write them with the expectation that they’ll be made into movies. But watching a screening of “Lemonade Mouth,” the Disney Channel movie made from his 2007 book, he says, was “a gigantic life moment.”
Watching the film surrounded by family and friends, he says, “I can’t even begin to describe the emotion of the moment. I was thrilled when I saw it.”
