I was born in Liverpool, England, at the Oxford Street Maternity Hospital, the same hospital as John Lennon. My family moved to the U.S.A. when I was one, and I spent most of my childhood in Barrington, Rhode Island. I had a newspaper route, worked a variety of odd jobs, and was making up stories long before I knew what to do with them.
After college, I started playing in bands and have been doing that ever since. Along the way, I taught algebra and spent years doing analytical work for hospitals and doctors. I love math. I love reading and writing. I love history. I live in Wayland, Massachusetts, with my wife and a good-natured dog named Willow. Our three kids are grown and launched. The photo here is me at about thirteen.
I enjoy visiting schools and talking with students about writing, music, creativity, and problem-solving across disciplines.
