But after their fateful appearance at the local Catch A RI-Zing Star competition, just how did our little band of troublemakers end up rocketing all the way from high school nobodies to household names? The band recounts that momentous summer when an overworked music promoter, an unwanted visitor from India, and an unexpected reappearance from Olivia’s past shook their world and launched them on their own extraordinary roller-coaster ride into destiny. Hold on tight for the official continuation of the story of high school’s most influential band! Lemonade Mouth is taking on the world and holding no prisoners–and the outcome is sure to be nothing short of revolutionary!

“Lemonade Mouth Puckers Up is the follow-up to 2007’s Lemonade Mouth, which inspired the popular 2011 Disney Channel musical movie of the same name. Happily, Puckers Up stands well on its own.“

“Rock on!…There are very few books about rock bands, and it is something that middle grade and high school readers are interested in. Even though the characters are high schoolers, this would be fine for middle school. A lot of clever turns of phrase, and the songs are so much fun.”

A Message From Mark:
Greetings, friends:
Lemonade Mouth Puckers Up is about a group of five high school musicians, each very different from the others, who stumble into greatness when their well-meaning actions get them into big trouble, sparking a growing national revolution for underdogs everywhere. It’s a stand-alone sequel to Lemonade Mouth, one of my earlier books, and like its predecessor it tells the story in the voices of each band member.
One of the things I loved about writing this book was that I was able to dig even deeper into the individual lives of each of the characters. Olivia, brought up by her grandmother, has a father in prison and an estranged mother who’s suddenly reappeared in her life. Mohini, the American-raised daughter of Indian immigrants, is suspicious that her parents might be making the first moves to set her up for an arranged marriage, very much against her own wishes. Stella, a headstrong revolutionary with world-changing ambitions, is about to receive a unexpected surprise that will change everything. Charlie, the introverted percussionist, is in the middle of an existential crisis and needs to find a way out. Wen’s family life is thrown for a loop when his father suddenly quits his stable job to start a new, dubious business – selling hot-dogs from a van.
As a musician and former high-school outsider/screw-up myself, I feel a special connection with each of these kids. Like them (well, mostly like Stella, not so much the others, at least at first) I’ve always carried a secret goal to make the world better somehow, only I never had the nerve to make it happen in a big way. Lemonade Mouth and Lemonade Mouth Puckers Up have sort of been my way of imagining how a group of people (kids, in this case) really might be able to work together to make a revolution for positive changes in the world, changes that are both large and small.
Some fun facts:
* Like Mohini, I’m an immigrant. I was born in England and moved to the USA as a very young child.
* Olivia’s shyness comes from my own. I’m a little more confident now but as a kid I had a hard time opening up to people.
* Wendel is the name of my dog. He’s half cocker-spaniel and half poodle.
* Charlie is the name of my kids’ hamster.
* Stella’s name came after I learned that it’s Paul McCartney’s daughter’s name. I’m a huge Beatles fan.
I hope you like part 2 of Lemonade Mouth’s continuing story. Don’t Stop The Revolution!
